Tarn Moor Estate

Tarn Moor Estate Grants

A grant-making charity for the general benefit of the residents of Skipton. Applicant groups must be based in the parish of Skipton — the area of benefit is a map on the Trust's site, and it is the parish boundary, not the wider town or district. Grants are mainly for capital costs: equipment, one-off expenditure, new facilities or improvements to existing ones. There is no stated upper or lower limit but grants are normally £200 to £5,000. It uses the Yorkshire Common Application Form, shared with other local funders. Grants to individuals and students have been suspended since 2022 while the Trust reviews its policies.

Who can apply

  • Skipton-based charities, non profit-making organisations, community groups and individuals
  • Applicant groups must be based in the parish of Skipton and applicant individuals must live within the parish — the Trust publishes a map of the area of benefit and says that if you live within the black boundary shown, or your organisation serves or benefits principally the residents of that area, you are eligible
  • All proposals must benefit the people of Skipton and the application must explicitly explain and evidence how
  • Groups must give details of the number of trustees, directors or other governing body members and supply documentation evidencing this, along with financial information; consideration is given to evidence of ongoing planning beyond project completion including longer-term financial viability, and the Trust may take other grants secured or pledged into account
  • Bank account details are required for payment wherever possible
  • Grants to individuals and students are currently suspended

What it funds

  • Capital costs of projects, services and activities that benefit people in Skipton: purchasing new equipment or services, one-off expenditure on an activity, organising or building new facilities, or making improvements to existing ones
  • Grants are not normally given for revenue purposes such as maintenance of equipment or staff costs
  • Recent grants include Skipton Camerata's concerts aimed at young people, a Skipton-based nursery, local sports groups such as Skipton Cricket Club and Bowling Club, and resurfacing the all-weather pitch at Sandylands sports centre

What it will not fund

  • Applications that are not of benefit to the people of Skipton
  • Applicant groups not based in the parish of Skipton
  • Revenue purposes, such as maintenance of equipment or staff costs, other than educational revenue costs for individuals

the offer of grants to individuals and students has been temporarily suspended since 2022 while the Trust reviews and updates its grants policies

priority may be given at the Trust's discretion to applicants who have not received funds before, or who offer new benefits meeting its priorities

How to apply

  1. Check the map of the area of benefit on the Trust's website to confirm you are within the parish boundary of Skipton
  2. Read the Grant Application Form (Common) Guidance Notes
  3. Download the Yorkshire Common Application Form from the website — the Trust asks that the editable PDF version be used
  4. Complete it, explaining explicitly how the project will benefit the people of Skipton
  5. Sign the declaration confirming your governing body has authorised the application
  6. Return it electronically by email to the Clerk, or print and post it

applications are received at any time and go to the next quarterly Trust Board meeting, held in January, April, July and October

for larger grants this form is only the first stage, and may be followed by meetings, site visits and follow-up arrangements
