The Caron Keating Foundation

Caron Keating Foundation Grants

A small family-run foundation, set up in memory of the broadcaster Caron Keating and administered by her mother Gloria Hunniford, giving grants to small cancer charities across the UK. It deliberately avoids large building projects and research programmes, funding instead the practical things: detection equipment, counselling and bereavement services, hospice-at-home and in-hospice care, drivers taking patients to treatment, complementary therapies for pain control, specialist beds and chairs, and syringe drivers. Published awards in 2023-24 ranged from £1,500 to £5,000. There is no application form, criteria document or deadline — you write to the Foundation, and only successful charities are contacted.

Who can apply

  • Small cancer charities throughout the United Kingdom
  • The Foundation assists small but significant cancer charities, financing professional carers and support groups, and says it is dedicated to assisting as many cancer charities as it can within a family-run charity
  • Published beneficiaries are named registered charities, hospices and children's cancer funds across England, Northern Ireland and elsewhere in Britain
  • An unsuccessful application does not prevent reapplying
  • The Foundation warns that only charities successful in being offered a grant are contacted

What it funds

The Foundation's stated aim is to give a significant number of grants to small charities throughout Britain, as opposed to raising money towards huge building projects or research involving millions. Its own examples are:

  • Pieces of machinery which detect cancer faster
  • Counselling services
  • Hospice care both at home and in the hospice
  • Drivers to take cancer patients to and from treatment centres
  • Complementary therapies to help with pain control
  • Bereavement counselling
  • Specialist beds and chairs to give physical relief
  • Syringe drivers used for giving pain relief

Published grants in 2023-24 funded contrast-enhanced mammography, psychological services for children with brain tumours, lymphoedema services, family support after a childhood cancer diagnosis, hair care support, grief counselling, a mobile cancer unit and replacement hospice beds.

What it will not fund

  • Large building projects
  • Research programmes involving millions

the Foundation publishes no formal exclusion list; this is what it states about its own approach
