Four Barrows Foundation
Four Barrows Foundation Grants
Annual grants of GBP 1,000 to GBP 3,000 to primary schools and small, locally-focussed charities working with children up to age 12, in five areas local to the trustees: Wiltshire, Berkshire, Surrey, Lothian and Fife. The money must show a clear benefit to the education of pre-school and primary age children. Funding may run for more than one year because the Foundation recognises the work often needs a long-term commitment. Applications are only accepted through the website form.

Who can apply
- Primary schools and small, locally-focussed charities that can show a clear link between their activities and benefits to the education of pre-school and primary age children — children up to 12
- The Foundation says plainly that it is not able to support any other organisation
- The work must take place in Wiltshire, Berkshire, Surrey, Lothian or Fife; these are the only options on the application form, and the Foundation supports them because they are local to its trustees
- The form asks applicants to select whether the principal age group served is 1-4 years or 5-12 years, and to state total annual income and how much of that comes from grants and from donations
What it funds
- Projects or activities showing a clear benefit in the education of pre-school and primary age children — the Foundation asks for a clear link between an organisation's activities and benefits to that education
- Grants are aimed at GBP 1,000 to GBP 3,000 a year, and because the Foundation understands these efforts often require a long-term commitment, funding may be provided for more than one year
What it will not fund
- Applications made by any route other than the website form — 'We can't accept applications by other means'
- Any organisation other than a primary school or a small locally-focussed charity — the Foundation states it is 'not able to support any other organisation'
- Work outside Wiltshire, Berkshire, Surrey, Lothian and Fife, which are the only areas the application form accepts
How to apply
- Check that your work is in Wiltshire, Berkshire, Surrey, Lothian or Fife and benefits the education of children up to 12
- Complete the online application form on the Foundation's 'Apply Here' page — it is the only route accepted
- Give the project name, the amount requested, the area or areas where the project will take place, and the principal age group served (1-4 or 5-12 years)
- Write an executive summary of up to 1,000 characters, the main educational benefits you aim to achieve (600 characters), what would be a good outcome for the project (600 characters), and the project's time frame
- State your total annual income, and how much of it comes from grants and how much from donations
- Choose whether the Foundation may keep your organisation's details for possible future use if the application is unsuccessful
the trustees only respond to successful applicants
successful applicants complete report forms, published on the Foundation's Report Forms page
Have ready
Note: no documents or attachments are requested — the online form is self-contained, asking only for income figures and free-text answers
