North London Forensic Collaborative

Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise Organisations Small Grant Programme for People Accessing Forensic Services

The North London Forensic Collaborative (an NHS provider collaborative led by North London NHS Foundation Trust) gives small grants of £500 to £4,999 to voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise organisations for projects aimed only at people using adult forensic mental health services (secure inpatient or community forensic teams) in North London. Projects supporting people into employment through work placements or training leading to jobs can get up to £9,999. Applications are taken on a rolling basis until March 2027 or until funds run out, with a panel including people with lived experience meeting monthly.

Who can apply

  • Voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise organisations (e.g. registered charities, CICs, social enterprises) based in North London and operating in the North East, North West or North Central London ICS areas: Barking & Dagenham, Barnet, Brent, Camden, City & Hackney, Ealing, Enfield, Hammersmith & Fulham, Haringey, Harrow, Havering, Hillingdon, Hounslow, Islington, Kensington & Chelsea, Newham, Redbridge, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest and Westminster
  • Applicants must either already work with people using NHS inpatient or community forensic mental health services and want to scale up, or already deliver a community project they could extend to this group; organisations in neighbouring boroughs can apply to extend provision into these North London boroughs
  • Applicants must evidence safeguarding and governance (DBS-checked staff, safeguarding policy, GDPR compliance, public and employers' liability insurance) and provide a governing document if awarded
  • Limit of £4,999 a year per organisation for general projects (£9,999 for employment projects), and £9,999 per rolling year across all NLFC grant programmes, after which a 12-month gap applies

What it funds

  • Any project that will improve health and wellbeing, promote recovery and inclusion, and enhance quality of life for people who use inpatient and community forensic mental health services
  • Particularly encouraged:
  • Meaningful activities improving health and wellbeing
  • Activities promoting better physical health
  • Learning and developing new skills
  • Training or work-based placements leading to employment
  • Building social connections and reducing isolation
  • Helping people feel integrated into their communities

Grants can scale up an existing offer to forensic service users or extend an existing community project to them, and successful projects can be repeated in the same or another ICS area.

Grants must be spent within 12 months of award.

What it will not fund

  • Projects aimed at population groups other than people using NLFC forensic mental health services
  • Projects that duplicate what the service users' existing multi-disciplinary mental health teams provide
  • Overheads above 15% of the total funding requested
  • Miscellaneous (unitemised) costs
  • Organisations that have already received £9,999 across NLFC grant programmes (including the Learning Disability and Autism Meaningful Activity Grant) within the last 12 months

How to apply

  1. Download and complete the NLFC Small Grant Application Form (organisation details, eligibility checks, project description and track record, outcomes, reach, itemised budget, value for money, timescale, previous NLFC funding, declaration)
  2. Complete the NLFT New Supplier (supplier set-up) Form

  6. Report progress at the project midpoint and on completion using the Small Grants Monitoring and Evaluation Form and Service User Outcome Measures Feedback Form, returned within two weeks of the project end date

If unsuccessful, you have one more opportunity to resubmit after panel feedback.
