Many funders run the same grant every year, so check the funder’s site for a new round. The details below are what the funder published when it was open.
Sea-Changers
Sea-Changers Main and Small Grant Funds
A volunteer-run UK marine conservation charity giving one-off grants to UK charities and other organisations, including schools, for marine conservation work. Main Grants of £500 to £2,500 are awarded in two rounds a year, closing 31 March and 30 September; Small Grants of up to £500 are open all year with a quick decision. Successful projects aimed at 5–18 year olds with limited access to the coast may be funded through the BMT Next Wave Fund, which is applied for through the same two forms.

Who can apply
- UK-based charities and other organisations, including schools, carrying out marine conservation related activities
- Grants are one-off rather than continual funding
- Applications are scored against six criteria: measurable impact on the marine environment and how well success is measured and evaluated; the difference the grant would make to the organisation's ability to run the project; how far the project is community-based, with public involvement or citizen science; value for money and whether other funding routes were explored; lasting, replicable or awareness-raising benefits; and innovation and creativity
What it funds
Projects achieving one or more of three objectives:
- Addressing the root causes of marine conservation threats and challenges in the UK
- Preventing or reducing negative impacts on UK coastal and marine environments or species
- Adding to the body of knowledge about UK marine conservation threats and challenges
Sea-Changers is particularly interested in grassroots projects that galvanise community action and projects that increase the number of people taking action for marine conservation.
Partial funding of a project is considered where other funds are also being sought or in place, provided you show exactly which elements the Sea-Changers grant would pay for and how it fits the wider finances.
What it will not fund
- Projects that have a political aim
- Applications solely to fund administrative or core operating costs
- Retrospective projects or funding requests
- Individuals, or causes that will benefit only one person
