Thomas Wall Trust
Grants for Registered Charities
Thomas Wall Trust gives grants of up to £5,000 to small and medium UK registered charities (income £25,000 to £500,000, registered at least three years) for projects that improve communication skills for disadvantaged adults, and that support people who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) into work. Every project must lead to beneficiaries gaining at least one accredited vocational qualification, and funding can be repeated annually for up to three years. The Trust also runs a separate grants programme for individuals (up to £1,500 towards vocational courses).

- Subsidiaries, offshoots or franchises of larger charities, hospitals, organisations with political or lobbying objectives and charities operating outside the UK are excluded
- Charities must wait two years from the date of submission before reapplying, and grantees that fail to submit monitoring or keep the Trust informed of changes cannot apply again
- Individuals apply through a separate Grants for Individuals programme
What it funds
- Specific projects run by a charity that equip disadvantaged people of working age (usually 18+) with the communication skills needed for employment, and support NEET people into employment
- The Trust sees communication as underpinned by skills such as empathy, listening, emotional intelligence, confidence and clarity
- Beneficiaries must gain at least one officially recognised, regulated, accredited vocational qualification during delivery or within two months of the project ending
- Pro-rata staffing and operational costs will be considered if appropriate
- Annual repeat funding for up to three years is possible, subject to satisfactory annual reviews of progress and impact
- The Trust welcomes proposals targeting people experiencing multiple deprivation or groups facing major barriers to employment, especially women, people with physical, mental or learning disabilities, and refugees, and prioritises match-funded projects
What it will not fund
- Organisations with political or lobbying objectives
- Capital costs (the purchase of land, buildings, construction)
- ESOL courses
- Charities that operate outside of the UK
- Subsidiaries, 'off shoots' or franchises of larger charities
- Hospitals
- Projects where beneficiaries do not gain an accredited vocational qualification
