Many funders run the same grant every year, so check the funder’s site for a new round. The details below are what the funder published when it was open.
Northampton Town Council
Councillors' Community Fund
Ward-based grants, generally up to £2,000 per group per year, from Northampton Town Council for local groups, charities and organisations. Each application must be nominated and supported by the ward's town councillor, and the money must benefit that ward and its residents. The criteria are deliberately broad: any purpose that enhances the economic, social or environmental wellbeing of the ward. The Grants Sub-Committee considers applications several times a year.

Who can apply
- Community groups based in the Northampton Town Council area, including local charities, Community Interest Companies, not-for-profit limited companies, and unincorporated or newly formed community groups
- New or emerging groups are welcome if appropriate financial arrangements are in place: the group needs a bank account in its own name, or a written agreement with another organisation to hold the funds for it
- Projects must take place within the Town Council boundary and clearly benefit Northampton residents
- Most beneficiaries should live in the ward concerned, although councillors may combine funds for projects covering more than one ward
- The application must be supported by the relevant ward town councillor, who provides a written supporting statement
- Schools may apply for projects outside core curriculum activity with wider community benefit
- Groups working with children, young people or vulnerable adults need suitable safeguarding arrangements, and groups must hold appropriate public liability insurance
- A group can receive at most £8,000 in total per financial year across all Town Council grant schemes
What it funds
- Any purpose which will enhance the economic, social and environmental well-being of the ward or part of it
- Providing information to constituents or seeking their views on matters affecting the area's wellbeing
- Contributing to a policy objective set by the Council
The council's examples are new equipment for a sports club and a residents' group improving an area for everyone.
Project-specific, time-limited staffing (e.g. a sessional youth worker or workshop facilitator) and short-term venue hire for a small community activity or one-off event may be considered.
Schools may apply for projects outside core curriculum activity that deliver wider community benefit.
What it will not fund
- Individuals
- Commercial businesses or companies operating for profit
- Regional or national charities, unless funding is clearly for a specific project that directly benefits Northampton residents
- Ongoing core running costs (e.g. long-term rent for established premises, general utilities, routine overheads not linked to a specific project)
- Core staff salaries not directly linked to a specific funded project
- Hospitality, alcohol, or entertainment-only costs
- Activities that promote a particular political party or candidate
- Religious worship or activities that are primarily faith-based (community activities delivered by faith groups may be eligible)
- Core school curriculum activities or statutory school provision
- Retrospective funding for projects that have already taken place
- Activities that duplicate existing provision without clear additional benefit
- Groups that have received separate Event Funding from the Town Council in the same financial year
- Projects outside the Northampton Town Council boundary
How to apply
- Read the Community Grants & Councillor Community Fund Policy
- Find your ward town councillor (https://www.northamptontowncouncil.gov.uk/councillors) and get their support. The simplest way is to email them the draft form so they can add their supporting statement
- Download the Word application form from https://www.northamptontowncouncil.gov.uk/councillorscommunityfundapplicationform and complete every part, putting N/A where a question does not apply
- Email the completed form, with your latest three months' bank statements, to grants@northamptontowncouncil.gov.uk before the deadline. The next deadline is 5pm on Wednesday 14 October 2026; later ones are 11 November 2026, 6 January 2027 and 17 February 2027
- The Town Clerk's office validates the application and adds it to the agenda. The Grants Sub-Committee considers it (next meeting 28 October 2026) and recommends a decision to the Community Services Committee; you may attend the meeting to answer questions
- You are told the outcome in writing after the committee meeting. If successful, take up the grant within six months and send a light-touch reflection/impact form after the project
Submit well before the deadline so the Town Clerk can validate it and chase any missing information; applications after a deadline roll over to the next one
Requests under £200 may go through a simplified process; contact the grants team
Your name, position, email address and address are disclosed to the committee, and the rest of the form is published in the public committee agenda
Support is available with the form, including plain English guidance, large print and phone help
Have ready
- Completed Councillors' Community Fund application form (Word)
- Written supporting statement from the nominating ward councillor(s), included in the form
- Latest three months' bank statements
- Bank/payee details for the organisation's account
For items over £500, quotes or other evidence of best value may be required. Evidence of safeguarding arrangements and public liability insurance may be requested where relevant
