Who can apply

  • Charities, community and voluntary groups and social enterprises that are based in Suffolk and support people from Suffolk
  • Suffolk Community Foundation's general rules apply: constituted organisations (registered charities, CIOs, CICs, social enterprises, unincorporated associations, community benefit societies, CASCs, and churches/faith groups running inclusive activities that do not promote religious belief)
  • Applicants need a governing document with charitable or community aims and a dissolution clause (an asset lock for CICs), at least three unconnected people on the governing body, an organisational bank account with two independent signatories, end-of-year accounts, an equality policy and a compliant safeguarding policy and procedures
  • The Foundation generally does not fund organisations with reserves below 3-6 months or above 12 months of expenditure
  • CICs and social enterprises must meet the Foundation's separate CIC/social enterprise criteria (eligibility quiz on its site)

What it funds

  • Mainly medical equipment or capital costs related to improving physical and/or mental health and wellbeing, and spending that is not part of the organisation's normal overheads or running costs
  • The fund prefers to pay the full cost of a specific, itemised piece of equipment
  • Larger grants may be considered for the outright purchase of equipment, but applicants must talk to a grants officer before asking for more than £5,000

What it will not fund

  • Building works
  • Outdoor gym or playground equipment
  • Fitness classes
  • Sporting or gardening equipment
  • Normal overheads or running costs such as staff salaries, rent or office costs
  • Organisations that received a grant from this fund the previous year (no reapplying in consecutive years)
  • Foundation-wide exclusions: large capital projects with less than 70% of the cost raised; equipment over £5,000 unless part-funding is evidenced; personal or individual needs; replacing statutory obligations (e.g. NHS, education); sole traders or commercial ventures; promoting political or religious causes; groups with significant unrestricted reserves; national charities without local benefit; retrospective grants; fundraiser fees or fundraising events; start-up or legal costs, research, consultation or feasibility studies; animal welfare unless it also benefits people; one-off cultural or celebratory events; refreshments; minibuses and other vehicles

How to apply

  1. Read Suffolk Community Foundation's grant guidelines and Terms and Conditions, and take the eligibility quiz (separate quiz for CICs and social enterprises)
  2. Optionally call a grants officer on 01473 602602 to check the project fits the fund's criteria (required before asking for more than £5,000, or before a repeat application)
  3. Complete the online application form for this fund (linked from Apply now on the fund page) by the deadline

Decisions are expected by the end of November 2026.
