- Listed and unlisted churches of any age, including 20th-century buildings, are eligible
- Each church is normally considered only once every three years
- The project must be agreed by the PCC or equivalent governing committee, and the Trust may ask for a statement from the Diocese or District confirming the church has a reasonable long-term future and is not being considered for closure
What it funds
- Fabric repairs and restoration of church buildings: roofs, masonry, windows (including stained glass), heating systems, electrical systems (where unsafe), lighting, plumbing, and broken or damaged floor tiles
- Also new toilets and kitchen areas where they would enhance the community life of the church, internal decoration to make good after a repair project, and improvements to accessibility and disabled access
- Work must meet National Building Regulations
- Larger grants can be paid in stages
- Grants can be claimed once spending exceeds the grant amount, and must normally be claimed within two years of the award
- The Trust may award less than requested
What it will not fund
- Work that has already started (except unforeseen structural problems discovered during a project)
- Routine upkeep, such as boiler servicing, routine redecoration and gutter cleaning
- Repairs to church halls, churchyards or car parks
- Work covered by an insurance claim
- Work relating to organs, clocks and bells (towers or fabric around them may be considered)
- Professional and consultancy fees
