Kent Family Foundation
The Kent Family Foundation Grants
Grants from a small family foundation (formerly the Kent Family Charitable Trust, now registered charity 1207157) to UK registered charities whose work reduces human suffering, such as extreme poverty or lack of basic human rights, or the suffering of animals. The trustees favour charities run in line with humanist principles and say they are less likely to fund charities with a religious basis. They also favour cases where a small grant lets a larger project go ahead, for example by meeting a shortfall. Applications are considered quarterly; recent grants have mostly gone to UK charities working overseas, in Uganda, Ghana and Sri Lanka among others.

Who can apply
- UK registered charities only, and not ones subject to a Charity Commission inquiry; applications from individuals or other types of organisation cannot be accepted
- The work itself can be overseas: most grants listed on the site support UK charities working in Africa and Asia
- Applications must align closely with the Foundation's preferred causes and humanist principles
- The Foundation says it receives roughly 20 times more in requests than it can fund
What it funds
Projects judged on these criteria:
- Applications that have the greatest impact on reducing human suffering (e.g. extreme poverty or the lack of basic human rights as defined by the UN Declaration of Human Rights)
- Applications that have the greatest impact on reducing suffering in non-human sentient animals
- Applications from charities that have objectives and are managed in a way that is consistent with humanist principles
- Applications where a small grant might enable a larger project to go ahead, such as meeting a shortfall in funding or which encourage larger grants or fund-raising
- Applications where there is a high degree of likelihood of the proposed impact being achieved
What it will not fund
- Individuals
- Organisations that are not UK registered charities
- Charities subject to a Charity Commission inquiry
the Foundation says it is less likely to fund charities that have a religious basis
