Shetland Islands Council

Scottish Welfare Fund (Shetland)

Shetland Islands Council runs the Scottish Welfare Fund locally, giving two kinds of grant to people on low incomes. Crisis Grants help in a disaster or emergency where there is an immediate threat to health or safety; Community Care Grants help people settle or keep living in the community, including one-off items such as a cooker or washing machine. Since 1 June 2026 the council is only considering applications rated High Priority or above.
