Many funders run the same grant every year, so check the funder’s site for a new round. The details below are what the funder published when it was open.

East End Community Foundation

Wakefield Tetley Small Grants Fund

Grants of up to £5,000 from the Wakefield Tetley Trust, run by East End Community Foundation, for small charities and community groups in Tower Hamlets working with people and communities who are marginalised or disadvantaged. Only groups with an annual income of £250,000 or less can apply, and those with income up to £100,000 are prioritised. It pays for project costs and core costs, including staff salaries and rent, and it especially welcomes grassroots groups without staff, such as tenants' and residents' associations. The fund totals £50,000 this round, and CICs cannot apply.

  • The fund especially encourages grassroots organisations, including groups with no staff such as tenants' and residents' associations and self-help groups
  • CICs cannot apply
  • Applicants need a governing document, and their bank account needs two unrelated signatories

What it funds

  • Project costs, time-limited activities, core costs including staff salaries, rent and running costs, service adaptations, and the extra costs of adapting services to reach vulnerable people, for projects lasting up to one year
  • The work must benefit individuals and communities who are marginalised or disadvantaged, for example:
  • Carers
  • Disabled people
  • Children with additional needs and disabilities
  • People from Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities
  • Refugees
  • People with no recourse to public funds
  • People in manual or insecure work
  • Families affected by domestic violence and abuse
  • People experiencing poor mental health
  • People living alone who may be isolated

A core-cost request is more likely to succeed if the applicant is a registered charity established for 3+ years, its unrestricted reserves are less than 12 months' expenditure, it has no paid fundraisers or outstanding loans, the costs relate to ongoing activity that has been running for at least 12 months, it makes effective use of volunteers, and over 70% of its work is in Tower Hamlets.

What it will not fund

  • Community Interest Companies (CICs)
  • Grants to individuals
  • Work that has already taken place
  • Organisations already holding a grant that has not expired
  • Organisations with significant unrestricted reserves
  • Organisations in serious financial deficit
  • The promotion of religion
  • Animal charities
  • Environmental improvements
  • Building restoration or conservation
  • Uniformed youth groups
  • Projects working with schools or vocational training
