Many funders run the same grant every year, so check the funder’s site for a new round. The details below are what the funder published when it was open.
Greater Manchester High Sheriff's Police Trust
Greater Manchester High Sheriff's Police Trust Grants
A partnership of individuals, companies and voluntary or statutory agencies funding projects that reduce crime and the fear of crime across Greater Manchester. Two routes: a Major Tier for grants between £501 and £5,000, considered at four trustee meetings a year, and a Second Tier of up to £500 that can be applied for at any time. Both are short Word forms emailed to the trust, with no supporting documents at all — unusually light for the size of grant.

Who can apply
- Organisations across Greater Manchester whose project meets the trust's aims; the Major Tier form asks for a charity number 'if applicable', so charitable status is not required
- Applications are submitted 'as a registered organisation', and by submitting you confirm your organisation has an up-to-date safeguarding policy in place — the trust does not want a copy, but will require repayment of any grant if it finds that statement was untrue
- Cheques cannot be issued to individuals, so a suitable organisational payee must be named
- An organisation may only apply once every two years, whether or not its previous application succeeded
- The trust divides Greater Manchester into areas replicating the borough councils, with North and South Manchester under Manchester City Council
What it funds
Projects meeting the trust's objectives: promoting a safer and increased quality of life in and around Greater Manchester through the prevention of crime and the protection of people and property from criminal acts, and advancing education in all matters relating to alcohol, drug and other solvent abuse.
- Its four aims are improving the quality of life of all communities in Greater Manchester, with vulnerable groups and victims of crime as priorities
- Supporting wide-ranging initiatives addressing crime reduction issues that affect people's lives
- Supporting community and race related initiatives, including those assisting vulnerable groups with special and distinct needs identified through local consultation
- Supporting initiatives arising from locally agreed Crime and Disorder reduction strategies

How to apply

- Download the relevant Word form from the trust's Applications page
- For the Major Tier, answer the set questions within their word limits: a description of the project (200 words), who will benefit (50 words), what the grant is for (250 words), other funders approached or secured (100 words), and your exit plan or sustainability programme (100 words)
- Give a total grant requested with a breakdown of costs, and state whether the project involves any overnight or residential activities
- Email the completed form as a Word document to HighSheriff.Trust@gmp.police.uk
Major Tier applications are only accepted in four windows — 1–18 December for February meetings, 1–31 March for May, 1–30 June for August, and 1–30 September for November — and must arrive by 12.00 lunchtime on the closing date. Second Tier applications may be submitted at any time.
the application process can be closed without notice when demand exceeds the budget for a given meeting. You are told by email, the application is not saved, and you may re-apply in the next round.
Have ready
- The completed application form, as a Word document — the trust will not accept another format
no supporting documents are wanted. The Major Tier form explicitly says not to submit a copy of your safeguarding policy, only to confirm you hold one.
