Leeds Community Foundation and Leeds Civic Trust

The Future Places Fund

A fixed two-year grant of £20,000 (£10,000 a year) from Leeds Community Foundation and Leeds Civic Trust for creative, community-led projects that imagine the future of a place in Leeds over the next 10 to 50 years and aim to influence local action, planning or decisions. A place can be a neighbourhood, high street or site, or a community of interest with a strong connection to place. Every project must produce a tangible 'future artefact' such as a report, map, model, exhibition or film; the Foundation expects to fund around five.

What it funds

Projects that explore the future of a place aiming to influence local action, planning or decisions, for example:

  • Community workshops or creative engagement with local people to develop a shared long-term vision
  • Street surveys, pop-ups or walking tours to understand, explore and document how a place could change (e.g. the future of a neighbourhood, site or community of interest)
  • Work with local communities and partners that sets out clear next steps to influence future action or decisions for a future place

Groups are not restricted to these examples. Organisations must create a tangible output or 'future artefact' (e.g. report, map, model, exhibition, film) as part of the project.

What it will not fund

  • Activity and costs that have already taken place
  • Activity which might be regarded as discriminatory and/or excludes some people without good justification
  • Activity that promotes a particular political or religious point of view
  • Activity primarily for the benefit of animals
  • Capital appeals for building projects
  • Grant-making to other organisations and/or individuals, or applications from individuals
  • Statutory organisations or activity
  • Overseas organisations, expeditions or overseas travel
  • Small unincorporated and unregistered organisations
  • For-profit organisations
