  • Organisations cannot apply to this fund (the wider Beinneun Community Benefit Fund supports groups separately)

What it funds

Part or all of the costs of attending a course, full or part time, including short vocational courses (e.g. Modern and Foundation Apprenticeships, NC, HNC, HND, undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, forklift tickets, LGV/HGV):

  • Course fees not already paid from elsewhere
  • Travel (bus, ferry or train fares, fuel
  • Under-22s must use Young Scot free bus travel first, and other transport is only considered if the course cannot be reached by bus)
  • Study aids such as laptop, software, stationery and books
  • Technical aids/equipment such as course-related specialist clothing and tools
  • Accommodation
  • Tutor costs

The level of award depends on the course and your circumstances, including any bursary available from Skills Development Scotland, SAAS, a college fee waiver or elsewhere.

What it will not fund

  • General living costs
  • Environmentally damaging or unsustainable activities
  • Travel abroad
  • Vehicle purchases
  • Costs incurred before a decision is made on your application (retrospective funding), including courses that have already begun
  • Training or equipment your employer should provide, or that is necessary for your current job or a job you are likely to move into with your current employer
  • Apprentice costs that can be claimed back from the employer or another source
  • Costs already covered by a school, college, the local authority or another awarding body (e.g. an industry trade body, Skills Development Scotland or SAAS)
