Many funders run the same grant every year, so check the funder’s site for a new round. The details below are what the funder published when it was open.
Stevenage Community Trust
Stevenage Community Trust Grants
An independent local charity, funded entirely by local businesses and donors with no statutory income, making grants to charitable organisations, community groups, schools, sports clubs, elite athletes, and individuals and families in hardship in Stevenage and sixteen named surrounding villages. The grants committee for groups meets roughly quarterly, with the next deadline 12 October 2026; hardship applications for individuals are taken all year round but must come through a professional such as a social worker or teacher, never from the beneficiary.

Who can apply
- The organisation, group or person benefiting must live, operate or support those living in Stevenage or the surrounding villages of Almshoe Bury, Ardeley, Aston, Benington, Cromer, Datchworth, Graveley, Knebworth, Great Wymondley, Little Wymondley, Old Knebworth, Rabley Heath, Walkern, Watton-at-Stone, Weston and Woolmer Green — this applies even to an applicant representing a national or international charity
- Organisations do not have to be registered charities but must be governed by a management committee or board of trustees, have a written constitution or governance document, and hold their own bank account with at least two unrelated signatories
- Any organisation working with children, young people or adults at risk must confirm it has a child and vulnerable adult protection policy; no grant is made without that
- The Trust will not fund organisations holding more than six months of unrestricted reserves without a satisfactory explanation, requires a minimum of 12 months between applications other than in exceptional circumstances, and will not fund the same organisation for more than three consecutive years
- Beneficiaries must be in financial hardship, quantified on the form with supporting evidence
- Applications for individuals must be submitted by a professional from a recognised organisation with an ongoing professional relationship with the applicant — a social worker, teacher, health professional or support worker — who has obtained the beneficiary's consent; the Trust will not discuss the application with the beneficiary
What it funds
- Charitable purposes benefiting people in Stevenage and the surrounding villages
- For organisations, applications with clear objectives and outcomes are looked on favourably, particularly where fundraising has been undertaken or other funding streams explored
- For individuals, grants are mostly items of equipment or services bought on the beneficiary's behalf rather than cash — furniture and white goods, often second-hand or reconditioned, from a supplier the Trust nominates
- There is a separate heating grant, considered between 1 October and 31 March and paid directly to the energy provider, and Christmas gift cards for families where the beneficiary is the main carer of at least one child under 18 living with them
- Elite athletes performing at regional level or above and on a pathway to national or international competition can be funded for specific items, kit and competition fees
What it will not fund
- Pursuing political objectives
- Religious evangelism
- Pursuing trade union objectives, save for the welfare functions of trade unions
- Animal welfare
- Anything inconsistent with the Trust's charitable objectives
- Retrospective grants — items or services already purchased
- The supply and fitting of flooring materials, except in exceptional circumstances
- Ongoing costs, including for elite athletes
the Trust also prefers not to fund replacement of statutory funding, general appeals, large national or international charities, educational projects that should be covered by the national curriculum, the costs of medical treatment, or organisations fundraising for national charities rather than their own needs
How to apply
- Read the Guidelines for Grant Applications before starting — incomplete applications, or ones lacking supporting documentation, are declined
- Download the right form from the Trust's Forms page: Groups, Hardship, Sports, or Heating Grant
- Complete the form fully, answering every question — applications are only considered on the form
- Submit it to the Trust ahead of the quarterly grants committee deadline; the next is 12 October 2026
applications for individuals and families in crisis are accepted throughout the year and must be submitted by a professional referrer, not the beneficiary
heating grant applications are only considered between 1 October and 31 March
successful organisations and elite athletes are expected to attend the annual grants presentation evening and to publicly acknowledge the grant
a monitoring form must be returned within six months or on completion, whichever is sooner, or future requests are affected
Have ready
- A completed application form of the right type — Groups, Hardship, Sports or Heating Grant
- Your most recent financial accounts, or for a new organisation a recent bank statement
- A written constitution or governance document
- Confirmation of a child and vulnerable adult protection policy if you work with children, young people or adults at risk
- Proof of the organisation's bank account details — a voided cheque, voided paying-in slip, bank statement or letter from the bank
- For individual hardship applications, a copy of the beneficiary's bank statement covering a one-month period within the last three months, from every account held
- For heating grants, a full recent utility bill or a letter, statement or contract from the energy provider showing name, address and account or meter reference plus payment information
the referrer must have obtained the beneficiary's consent to share personal information before applying
